The American Lifeskills module
at the Refugee Center

The Refugee Development Center's American Lifeskills module helps refugees learn to function as self-sufficient members of American society.

With the help of volunteers from the Lansing community, refugees use videotapes, computer programs, Internet sites, books, and pamphlets at their own pace, learning about:

•  Finding housing in Lansing
•  Working in the United States
•  Using computers and improving computer skills
•  Educational opportunities in Lansing
•  Handling finances
•  Lansing and Michigan transportation systems
•  Health & mental health resources in the mid-MIchigan area
•  Safety
•  United States & immigration laws
•  United States society
  

The center also offers:

•  Drop in assistance
•  ESL and Citizenship classes
•  Advocacy
•  Youth programming & Leadership development
•  The opportunity to learn & make new friends
